At around 3:05 a.m. on the 11th, Mokpo Maritime Police received a report of a fire on vessel A (46 tons, coastal fishery product transport business, registered in Busan) docked at the Bukhang pier in Mokpo City. The Bukhang police substation rescue team, West Sea Special Rescue Unit, patrol vessels, and pollution control boats were dispatched immediately.
To prevent a secondary large-scale accident, the maritime police communicated the situation and managed safety for vessels moored around the fire site, promptly moved the vessels, and supported the fire extinguishing efforts of the Mokpo Fire Station 119 firefighters who arrived at the scene.
Due to the fire, vessel A’s engine room and wheelhouse were completely burned, but no casualties or marine pollution occurred.
In April, Mokpo Maritime Police produced emergency contact stickers for vessels to ensure rapid response in case of fire accidents at local harbors and ports, distributing them to vessel owners and related parties.
Additionally, in June, they conducted a joint training exercise for vessel fire accident response with Mokpo Fire Station, establishing a system for sharing tasks and cooperation with related agencies.
Meanwhile, at around 5:16 a.m. on the same day, a report was received that vessel B (4.24 tons, coastal gillnet fishing, registered in Mokpo), docked at the small cargo wharf in Bukhang, Mokpo City, was leaning about 15 degrees, caught on the pier wall stairs. The Bukhang police substation rescue team and West Sea Special Rescue Unit were dispatched.
Upon arrival, the maritime police reinforced the vessel by securing mooring lines to prevent further tilting and installed two lift bags at the front and rear of the vessel to prevent sinking, making every effort to prevent additional accidents.
