More than 780 public officials participated in the weekend public support, visiting 23 locations that had applied in advance for the first round of support activities. The main support included cleaning flooded houses, removing flood-damaged crops, repairing farmland losses such as facility greenhouses, collecting trash around roads and rivers, and harvesting sweet corn.
As the monsoon rain subsided, Haenam-gun began full-scale damage recovery work from the afternoon of the 6th, mobilizing all available resources including heavy equipment to carry out emergency repairs on embankments and roads.
In particular, for households affected by flooding such as house inundation, local volunteer groups and eup/myeon employees have been fully mobilized to organize and disinfect households, working hard with sweat.
Also, as drainage has mostly been completed, they are lending a hand in farmland recovery such as removing flood-damaged crops and maintaining facility greenhouses.
County Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan has been visiting various affected areas daily to encourage rapid recovery through on-site inspections and listen to residents' opinions on disaster prevention measures.
Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan said, “We are mobilizing all available personnel including public officials, volunteers, and military units to support areas needing manpower recovery. We will do our best to prevent additional damage through the fastest possible recovery and to ensure a swift return to daily life.”
Meanwhile, Haenam-gun experienced record-breaking heavy rain with a cumulative rainfall of 578mm until the 8th, including a maximum hourly rainfall of 110mm in Bukil-myeon since the start of the monsoon on the 3rd.
Due to the heavy rain, a 69-year-old woman died when a house near Daheungsa Temple in Samsan-myeon was flooded in the early morning of the 6th. Additionally, water supply was cut off in 240 households across five villages, 91 houses were flooded, and about 50 people became disaster victims.
Furthermore, 5,335 hectares of farmland and 49 livestock farms were flooded, and 19 cases of damage occurred in the fisheries sector, including eight inland aquaculture farms, a seaweed processing plant, and salt fields.
