Prosecution Seeks 30-Year Prison Sentence Again in Appeal Trial for 'Doctor's Room' Second-in-Command Kang Hoon

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The prosecution has requested a 30-year prison sentence in the appellate trial for Kang Hoon, known as 'Buddha,' an accomplice of Jo Joo-bin, the operator of the Telegram 'Baksa Room.'
On the afternoon of the 6th, during the sentencing hearing held by the 9th Criminal Division of the Seoul High Court (Presiding Judge Moon Gwang-seop), the prosecution asked the court to impose this sentence on Kang. This is the same sentence as requested in the first trial.
Kang, known as the 'second-in-command' of the Baksa Room, was indicted on charges of conspiring with Jo from September to November 2019 to threaten 18 victims, including 7 children and adolescents, to film and produce sexually exploitative videos, and to sell and distribute them on Telegram for profit. In particular, Kang was investigated as a key accomplice who helped manage and operate the Baksa Room from the stage when Jo created it and began producing and distributing sexually exploitative materials.

The previous first trial found Kang guilty of most charges and sentenced him to 15 years in prison. Kang appealed the first trial's verdict and has been undergoing the second trial. Before sentencing, the court decided that additional hearings were necessary regarding Kang's involvement in the Baksa Room criminal organization and scheduled another hearing on the 20th.
