Haenam-gun Assigned Temporary Seasonal Foreign Workers by Ministry of Justice
[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 5th that it has been allocated 68 temporary seasonal workers from the Ministry of Justice targeting legally residing foreigners in Korea to address the shortage of farm labor amid difficulties in new foreign arrivals due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
The eligible applicants include foreigners with dependent (F-3) and visiting family (F-1) visas, foreigners with non-professional employment (E-9) status, foreigners who re-entered after departure under last year's 'virtuous cycle voluntary departure system for illegal foreigners,' and all foreigners unable to leave the country due to COVID-19.
Applications are accepted by the county starting from the 5th, and the Gwangju Immigration Office Mokpo Branch will verify eligibility. After signing a labor contract with a farm for at least one month and up to five months, seasonal work will be carried out.
Participants in seasonal work will receive wages above the minimum wage, mandatory industrial accident insurance enrollment, and, if necessary, provided with lodging and meals.
A county official stated, "We hope this temporary seasonal foreign labor will help alleviate the shortage of farm labor even a little," and added, "We will continue to strive to secure the necessary rural workforce for farming operations to ease difficulties."
