Up to 200mm of Rain Expected in Gwangju and Jeonnam Until the 6th
'Heavy Rain Warning' Issued in Various Areas
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Over the past weekend and holiday, the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions received 100mm of rain, with up to 200mm forecasted by the 6th.
According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on the 5th, rain clouds generated by the stationary front are moving northeast at a speed of 50 km/h, bringing rain mainly to the Jeonnam coastal areas.
From the afternoon, the stationary front is expected to gradually move northward, expanding rain to most areas of Gwangju and Jeonnam.
As the wind speed in the lower atmosphere (around 1 km altitude) strengthens and a large amount of moisture is brought in, strong rain of about 30mm per hour accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected in the southern coastal areas of Jeonnam.
Between tonight and the morning of the 6th, very heavy rain exceeding 50mm per hour accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected.
Currently, a 'Heavy Rain Warning' is in effect for Heuksando, Hongdo, Jindo, Wando, and Yeosu, while a 'Heavy Rain Advisory' is issued for Jangheung, Haenam, Gangjin, Boseong, and Goheung.
Late this afternoon, a heavy rain preliminary warning will be issued for Gwangju and Jeonnam (excluding areas under heavy rain warnings and advisories), with a strong wind preliminary warning for Heuksando and Hongdo, and a high seas preliminary warning for the southern offshore waters of the West Sea.

The expected rainfall until the 6th is 50 to 150mm (up to 200mm in some areas). The rain cloud band developed along the stationary front is long east-west and narrow north-south, causing significant differences in rainfall amounts between regions. On the 6th and 7th, the forecasted rainfall may vary greatly depending on the northward movement of the stationary front.
