Minister Hwang Hee: "Author Yoon Go-eun's Daegye Award Win Is the Result of Fierce Passion"
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] On the 1st (local time), Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hwang Hee sent a congratulatory message to author Yoon Go-eun, who received the CWA Dagger Translation Crime Novel Award from the British Crime Writers' Association (CWA) for her novel Night Travelers, and translator Lizzy Butler.
On the 2nd, Minister Hwang said, "This award is the result of author Yoon Go-eun's intense passion for her work and translator Lizzy Butler's relentless efforts to widely introduce Korean literature to overseas readers," adding, "I expect that Korean literature will continue to play a significant role in gaining global recognition."
Minister Hwang continued, "I hope that this award will lead to greater attention from overseas readers to Korean genre literature," and added, "We will do our best to spread the Korean literary wave so that excellent Korean literary works can be widely known worldwide."
The 'Dagger Award' is one of the representative English-language mystery literature awards established in 1955, presenting awards in a total of 11 categories each year. The Translation Crime Novel category, which Night Travelers won this time, is awarded to outstanding overseas crime literature translated into English. It was newly established in 2006 under the name International Dagger (CWA International Dagger) and was renamed to its current name last year.
