Muan-gun Achieves Milestone with First Export of 384 Tons of Late-Maturing Onions to Taiwan

View original image[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Muan County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) announced on the 2nd that it held a shipment ceremony for the export of late-season Muan new onions at Yeongheung Agricultural Cooperative Corporation in Mangun-myeon on the 30th of last month.
At the event, 15 guests including Governor Kim San, Chairman of the County Council Kim Dae-hyun, and Bae Jeong-seop, head of the Southwest Vegetable Agricultural Cooperative, attended to celebrate the first export of Muan onions to Taiwan.
Yeongheung Agricultural Cooperative Corporation plans to export 384 tons of late-season onions through the export company NH Trade by July, and this export is expected to generate about 200 million KRW in farm income.
Governor Kim San said, “To expand agricultural product exports, we plan to strengthen cooperative relationships with local agricultural cooperatives, agricultural corporations, and export companies, and additionally establish specialized export complexes. Through diversifying sales channels for agricultural products and cultivating high value-added crops, we will increase farm income and actively respond to the climate change crisis to create a stable farming environment.”

Meanwhile, Muan County is supporting export logistics costs and providing technical guidance with the participation of 13 integrated marketing organizations including agricultural cooperatives to expand onion sales channels, and this year, it is focusing all administrative efforts on the goal of exporting 4,000 tons of agricultural specialty products.
