Gwangjin-gu Operates 'Bathroom Safety' to Inspect Illegal Filming in Public Restrooms
Establishment of Illegal Filming Inspection Management System on Old Website... Online Inspection Application Accepted... Safe Screens Installed in Public Women's Restrooms by August
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Seongap) is launching the ‘Gwangjin-style Safe Restroom’ project to ensure women can use public restrooms with peace of mind.
This project was established to block illegal filming in public women’s restrooms, alleviate the anxiety of female users, and prevent digital sex crimes.
First, the district will operate ‘Restroom Safety Officers,’ personnel who inspect for illegal filming, until the end of this year. Working in pairs, they will conduct continuous inspections for illegal filming at a total of 106 public restrooms in the area, and upon request from business owners, they will also inspect private restrooms.
Additionally, the district completed the establishment of an illegal filming inspection management system this month and opened the ‘Gwangjin-style Safe Restroom’ menu on the district’s website.
Through this menu, users can check a status map of the 106 safe public restrooms that the ‘Restroom Safety Officers’ continuously inspect.
Furthermore, residents or business owners can request inspections online for restrooms suspected of illegal filming via this menu, and real-time progress updates are provided.
The menu can be accessed through the district website under Frequently Used Services - Resident Welfare - Safe Restroom Illegal Filming Inspection menu.
Along with this, the district will install safety screens in 30 public women’s restrooms in the area by August.
The safety screens are installed at the upper and lower parts of restroom partitions to block open spaces and prevent mobile illegal filming.

District Mayor Kim Seongap said, “As anxiety about restroom use grows due to increasing digital sex crimes, we aim to promote the creation of ‘Gwangjin-style Safe Restrooms’ so that residents can use them with confidence. We will do our best to create a safe environment not only for women but for all residents.”
