Drunk Driving Accident: After School Alumnae Lizzy Heads to Trial
[Asia Economy Reporter Bae Kyunghwan] Lee Ji (real name Park Sooyoung, 29), an actress and former member of the idol group After School, has been prosecuted for causing a rear-end collision while driving under the influence.
According to the legal community on the 1st, the Criminal Division 7 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Byungseok) indicted Park without detention on the 24th of last month on charges of dangerous driving causing injury under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.
Park is accused of hitting a taxi ahead of her near the intersection at the southern end of Yeongdong Bridge in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, around 10:12 p.m. on May 18 while intoxicated, injuring the taxi driver. At the time of the accident, Park's blood alcohol concentration was at the license cancellation level (0.08% or higher).
Initially, the police applied only the drunk driving charge under the Road Traffic Act and referred the case to the prosecution. However, during the prosecution's investigation, the fact that the taxi driver was injured in the accident was proven, leading to the addition of the dangerous driving causing injury charge under the Special Act.
