'TikTok Jabja' Instagram Strengthens Video Services
"Various Changes Expected in Instagram App Over Several Months"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] Instagram, a photo-sharing app under Facebook, is starting a service that shows recommended videos in full screen, CNBC reported on the 30th (local time).
Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, said in a video message posted on Twitter that day, "We will experiment with various things for a broader video service," adding, "You will see various changes in the Instagram space over the coming months."
He emphasized that the service will allow users to watch recommended videos, including those from accounts they do not follow, in full screen, stating, "We are no longer just a photo-sharing app."
CNBC reported that this change by Instagram is expected to intensify competition with TikTok, the popular video-sharing app from China.
Mosseri explained that the reason for this change is to compete in the video service market with YouTube, owned by Google, and TikTok.
He emphasized, "We are currently in a very intense competitive environment," noting that TikTok and YouTube have already become huge, and many emerging services are vying for this space.
