KT 'AirMap Platform' Wins Innovation Award at MWC
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] KT announced on the 1st that its 'Airmap Platform' won the 'Best Mobile Innovation for Climate Action' award at the 'MWC Global Mobile Awards 2021,' held online in Barcelona, Spain.
Now in its 26th year, the 'Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO)' is a prestigious ICT (Information and Communication Technology) awards ceremony organized by the GSM Association (GSMA). This year, winners were selected in seven categories for companies and services that achieved significant innovations and major accomplishments across the mobile industry, including technology, devices, and content.
KT's Airmap Platform collects, stores, and analyzes air data from 'the places where I breathe' in real time to provide information. Based on this information, it automatically controls various air improvement devices to save energy and respond to the climate crisis.
KT utilizes its 5 million ICT infrastructures, including 4.5 million communication poles nationwide, approximately 330,000 base stations, and over 60,000 public phone booths, to provide fine dust and weather information through more than 2,600 measurement networks, including about 400 national measurement networks.
GSMA has selected climate crisis response as one of the core global crisis response tasks and encourages ICT companies worldwide to participate in climate crisis response and social contributions. Since 2019, KT has been leading not only domestic but also global fine dust management and response through cooperation with UNEP using the Airmap Platform.
