Hong Nam-ki: "Herd Immunity Achievement May Be Advanced Earlier Than November"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Hong Nam-ki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, mentioned the possibility of early achievement of herd immunity and stated that as long as the vaccination proceeds as planned, there will be no problem in implementing economic stimulus measures.
In an interview with the U.S. economic media CNBC released on the 28th (local time), Deputy Prime Minister Hong said, "The current government has relatively succeeded in controlling the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and vaccination."
He added, "Based on these achievements, we intend to maintain quarantine measures while promoting economic growth," and emphasized, "If vaccination proceeds as planned, the COVID-19 situation will be controlled, and then consumption stimulation and economic recovery measures can proceed without interruption starting next month."
