The event proceeded in the order of the progress of Dong Welfare University promotion, the agreement ceremony, the appointment ceremony of welfare center professional committee members who will consult on resident education, greetings from guests, and human rights education through media.
A Seongbuk-gu official stated, “Through this agreement, we have established a cooperative foundation among the district office, residents, community service centers, and welfare institutions, further promoting resident-led initiatives within the local community.”
Dong Welfare University is a project where residents take the lead to discover and implement local welfare agendas, with residents, government, and welfare institutions joining hands to enhance residents’ capabilities and strengthen local welfare.
Seongbuk-gu was selected for the ‘2018 Community Security Council Activation Project Contest,’ and two neighborhoods (Wolgok 1-dong, Donam 1-dong) carried out the project for two years until 2019. In 2020, three neighborhoods (Donam 1-dong, Bomun-dong, Jeongneung 3-dong) were selected and proceeded, and this year it has been expanded to all 20 neighborhoods.
Dong Welfare University provides education for residents who have a strong interest in local welfare or are currently engaged in welfare-related activities, focusing on resident organization, human rights, local welfare, practice in discovering welfare agendas, and planning and directly implementing Dong welfare plans based on the discovered welfare agendas.
