[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] Binggrae announced on the 27th that Chairman Kim Ho-yeon attended the tomb visit event held on the 26th at Hyochang Park in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the passing of Baekbeom Kim Gu. Chairman Kim Ho-yeon is the grandson-in-law of Baekbeom Kim Gu. This year, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the event scale was reduced, and instead of a memorial service, only a tomb visit was conducted under the auspices of the Baekbeom Kim Gu Memorial Project Association.
At the event, Chairman Kim Ho-yeon and his wife, Kim Mi, the biological granddaughter of Kim Gu, attended with their family. Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, and Kim Chang-ryong, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, also visited the tomb to pay their respects.
After the March 1st Movement in 1919, Kim Gu went into exile in Shanghai, China, and was appointed the first Director of the Police Bureau (current Commissioner of the National Police Agency) of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea. He later organized the Korean Patriotic Corps and founded the Korean Liberation Army, dedicating his life to the independence of his homeland.
To honor Kim Gu’s meritorious service, the government posthumously awarded him the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Republic of Korea Medal, in 1962.
