'Delta Variant Spread' UK Reports 18,270 New Cases on 26th, Highest Since Early February
[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] On the 26th (local time), the UK reported 18,270 new COVID-19 cases, the highest since early February, according to Sky News and others. This is the largest number of new cases since February 5.
The UK's daily new cases had risen to about 68,000 in early January but steadily decreased to the 1,000s by early last month, suggesting that COVID-19 was coming under control.
However, the recent spread of the highly transmissible Delta variant (originating from India) has caused new cases to rise again.
The number of new deaths has remained around 20. On this day, 23 new deaths were reported.
