It is hard to tell whether the ether scent filling the gallery is leaking from somewhere or if it is the smell emanating from the scalpel inside the frame.
#2. Medical scissors appeared without fail. They tried to cut the thread that wound around the petals like a skein, one strand at a time. It seemed as if the ‘scalpel’ was smiling brightly beside them.
Was it a painting or a photograph? It looked exactly like a fantasy scene. Due to the dreamy nature of the works, it took some time to realize that this exhibition was a photo exhibition.
The place where these photos beckon visitors is a hospital corridor. Inside the works, there are roses, scalpels, medical scissors, and surgical thread peeking out. The visitors are patients and their guardians, and the artist is a real doctor.
Kosin University Gospel Hospital (Hospital Director Oh Kyung-seung) is attracting attention with a photo exhibition held to celebrate its 70th anniversary since opening.
Kosin University Hospital has been holding a photo exhibition titled ‘Flowers in the Body V’ by photographer Park Ho-sun since June 14 under the theme ‘Giving the Gift of Recovery.’
The exhibition, which opened in early June at the PD Art Gallery on Jobang-ro in Dong-gu, Busan, has been relocated to the hospital’s outpatient clinic corridor.
The event is ongoing in the outpatient exhibition space of Kosin University Hospital from June 14 until the 30th.
The ‘Flowers in the Body V’ exhibition presents works that depict humans pursuing beauty with the help of medical power.
Alongside beautiful roses, hospital props always appear. Medical items such as scalpels, scissors, and syringes?objects that evoke fear and pain?are blended in.
The main character, the rose, believed it was the most beautiful. Then a yellow flower appeared. It was more beautiful. The rose decided to undergo plastic surgery to become even more beautiful. It became increasingly beautiful, but as time passed, it aged and withered. This is the plot of the exhibition.
Park Ho-sun, holding her ninth solo exhibition this year, said, “Thanks to the hospital’s consideration, I was able to exhibit my works in the outpatient space. I hope patients can visually heal through the photographic works.”
As a female artist, she is an otolaryngology specialist practicing in Saha-gu, Busan. She mainly creates works centered on flowers and human emotions.
Hospital Director Oh Kyung-seung said, “I am glad to have a precious connection with artist Park.” He expressed gratitude, saying, “It has become a valuable healing space for patients.”
