Coupang Logistics Center Union "We Must Create a Worker-Centered Logistics Center"... Urging Prevention of Fire Recurrence
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The Coupang Logistics Center labor union has called on the company to "apologize to all workers who constantly work in dangerous conditions with anxiety and create a worker-centered logistics center" in relation to the fire at the Coupang Deokpyeong Logistics Center located in Icheon-si, Gyeonggi Province.
The Coupang Logistics Center Branch of the Korean Public Service and Transport Workers' Union (KPTU) held a press conference on the 24th in front of Coupang headquarters in Songpa-gu, Seoul, stating, "The reason citizens responded with 'Quit Coupang' after this fire is because it became known that the convenience of Rocket and dawn delivery was secured at the expense of workers' safety and lives," and emphasized, "We must create a healthy and safe workplace for workers."
They also urged the establishment of practical employment stability measures, including support for workers who have been reassigned, as well as the implementation of nationwide safety inspections and training at logistics centers to prevent fire recurrence.
On the same day, logistics center worker A, who raised suspicions about Coupang's delayed evacuation through a Blue House public petition, also attended the press conference. A said, "The reason I posted the message was to raise awareness not only about the Coupang Logistics Center but also about the serious safety insensitivity in our country."
