Prime Minister Kim: "Moon Urged Caution to Prevent Virtual Asset Victims... No Specific Details Given"
"He Always Told Me to Pay Attention," Delivered
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum said on the 23rd, "President Moon Jae-in told us to always pay attention as a virtual asset (cryptocurrency) craze is spreading mainly among the younger generation."
During the government questioning session on economic affairs at the National Assembly that afternoon, when Lee Ju-hwan, a member of the People Power Party, asked if there were any messages or instructions from the Moon Jae-in administration during its four years, Prime Minister Kim replied, "There was a warning to be careful so that many victims would not occur," adding, "There was no specific instruction on what to do with virtual assets themselves."
Prime Minister Kim said, "Within the government, the Financial Services Commission was designated as the competent authority," and added, "The government's task is to ensure that the market stabilizes to some extent by September."
Regarding some opposition to the government's cryptocurrency taxation policy, he responded, "If you made money, how can you not pay taxes?" and said, "When income is generated, taxes must be paid. It is not a matter of feeling unfair or angry."
