Yeosu-si Begins Production of Urban Ecological Status Map
Formation of Ecological Networks and Environmental Management... Will Serve as the Foundation for Urban Management
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shim Kyung-taek] Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do, is creating an "Urban Ecological Status Map" that captures the ecological status across the entire city.
According to the city, to establish a sustainable ecological city, a project commencement briefing was held on the 23rd at the city hall situation room.
At the briefing, about 20 people including Yeosu Mayor Kwon Oh-bong, city council members, local environmental movement union members, experts, and related officials attended to discuss the overall project direction and exchange various opinions.
The Urban Ecological Status Map classifies the habitats of specific biological communities with spatial boundaries by ecological type and indicates preservation value grades.
Yeosu City will spend 400 million KRW by January 2023 to conduct thorough consultations with experts in related fields and investigate the ecological status across the entire city, including land use and land cover status maps, vegetation maps, and flora and fauna surveys, and establish a Geographic Information System (GIS).
