Light for Over 10 Years Without Power... 'Jabalgwangche' Emerges
The self-luminous materials used in personal devices have been entirely imported from overseas until now.
View original image[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] Interest is growing as the country’s first ‘tritium self-luminous material’ that emits light on its own for over 10 years has been introduced.
According to the industry on the 23rd, the tritium self-luminous material unveiled at the ‘2021 Defense Industry Parts and Equipment Exhibition’ is a rare defense component material monopolized by a few countries worldwide, including Switzerland, and is entirely imported from overseas.
In particular, it is used as an essential component in luminous sight clusters and elbow mortar tubes used in personal firearms, mortars, and self-propelled guns of our military, making domestic production seem feasible.
The tritium self-luminous material revealed by EigenCore can emit light for more than 10 years using the beta energy of tritium without power supply, even under extreme conditions. The company is pursuing business to supply high-quality, high-safety products worldwide through collaboration with local subsidiaries in Switzerland and the United States.
EigenCore stated, “As the first domestic manufacturer of tritium self-luminous materials, we have built a lineup of outstanding talents in the fields of tritium and radiation to establish manufacturing technology,” adding, “We maintain various cooperation channels with domestic and international experts, including signing a core technology transfer contract with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. and technical exchanges with overseas specialized institutions.”
Notably, last year, the company uniquely obtained the radioactive isotope sales permit essential for handling and selling tritium, as well as the nuclear fuel material usage permit in Korea, laying the foundation as a tritium self-luminous material manufacturer. Although there had been difficulties in maintenance and disposal of equipment such as personal firearm sights using radioactive tritium self-luminous materials, the ability to process tritium parts and materials independently is expected to expand cooperation in related fields.
