Establishment of a Cooperative System for Maintenance and Management of Firefighting Helicopters in the Honam Region
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) has strengthened the cooperative system for fire helicopter maintenance management.
Jeonnam Fire announced on the 22nd that it held a meeting on the establishment of a cooperative system for fire helicopter maintenance management in the Honam region on the 21st.
Currently, there are a total of five fire helicopters operating in the Honam region: one large and four small helicopters, responsible for rescue, emergency medical services, and firefighting.
Until now, although performing the same roles within the Honam region, each local government operated separately, causing management issues in operation and budgeting, such as simultaneous maintenance of helicopters.
Accordingly, Jeonnam Fire Headquarters held the meeting to establish a cooperative system for fire helicopter maintenance management in the Honam region to prepare management measures for fire helicopters to ensure public safety in the Honam area.
This meeting was organized based on Article 35 of the Enforcement Decree of the Fire Equipment Act, which mandates the establishment of an operational cooperative system for fire rotary-wing aircraft, and was attended by eight maintenance personnel from four organizations: Jeonnam, Gwangju, Jeonbuk Fire Headquarters, and the Central 119 Rescue Headquarters Honam Special District Unit.
At the meeting, they discussed ▲ regularizing meetings among stakeholders to jointly establish an annual maintenance plan ▲ budget reduction discussions necessary for the maintenance of fire helicopters ▲ and plans for joint use of parts and equipment.
Additionally, since the maintenance schedules of three fire helicopters belonging to Jeonnam, Jeonbuk, and the Honam Special District Unit are concentrated between February and April next year, they agreed to continue cooperating by adjusting schedules for each aviation unit.

Chief Ma Jaeyoon said, “It is highly significant that, for the first time among local governments nationwide, the groundwork has been laid to institutionalize cooperation, which had been progressing at the working-level stage, through this meeting for the Honam region’s maintenance management cooperative system.” He added, “We plan to promote this in a more advanced direction through further working-level discussions and signing of MOUs.”
