119 General Situation Room Duty Officer, Training Conducted to Improve Response to Extreme Choice Reports
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] The Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters announced on the 23rd that it will conduct training to improve fire response capabilities for reports of extreme suicide attempts for the 119 comprehensive situation room operators.
According to the cause of death statistics released by Statistics Korea, as of 2019, the total number of suicide deaths nationwide was 13,799. Among them, Gyeongnam recorded 938 deaths annually (2.57 deaths per day).
In 2020, the provisional nationwide suicide death count was 13,018, showing a similar trend.
Analysis of 119 dispatch statistics shows that in 2020, 226 residents of Gyeongnam attempted extreme suicide.
Accordingly, the provincial fire headquarters will conduct specialized crisis response training on extreme suicide situations for the 119 comprehensive situation room operators from June 24 to July 1 and from July 1 to 8.
This training aims to improve work capabilities by covering characteristics of extreme suicide attempters, identifying crisis states and response methods during report reception, and discussing related cases.
