KT Holds Metaverse Children's Sports Day with Yongsan District Office
KT-Yongsangu Office, Planning to Support Children's Non-Face-to-Face Physical Activities
Virtual Environment Realized Without Devices Like HMD Through RealCube
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] KT announced on the 22nd that it held a metaverse children's sports day using Yongsan District Office and RealCube.
This metaverse sports day was planned to support children's physical activities amid restrictions on outdoor activities due to COVID-19. From the 21st to the 22nd, KT and Yongsan District Office conducted the metaverse sports day at four institutions within Yongsan-gu, Seoul: Yongsan District Office, Yongsan-gu Childcare Comprehensive Support Center, Yongsan Clear Forest Daycare Center, and Yongsan-gu Joint Childcare Sharing Center.
The RealCube used in the metaverse sports day is a mixed reality (MR) service that links responsive technology and sensors capable of location and motion recognition in real spaces, allowing users to experience virtual environments without wearing separate devices such as virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays (HMD) or augmented reality (AR) glasses.
KT designed the sports day program according to the age groups and developmental stages of the participating children. The program included ▲ "Cleaning Operation," where children clean up trash in a virtual environment ▲ "Cubic Cat," finding hidden cats, and "Bubble Ocean 2," where children throw balls or touch walls to pop bubbles ▲ "Wall Push," quickly touching popping-out walls ▲ "Color Switch," changing wall colors within a limited time ▲ and "Goal In," putting balls into moving holes.

Bae Ki-dong, Executive Director of KT Enterprise Division's Space and Video DX Business, said, "We held the RealCube metaverse sports day to provide immersive communication experiences beyond time and space," and added, "KT will offer better experiences to customers through various metaverse technologies and services, including RealCube."
