COVID-19, 269 Cases Confirmed by 6 PM, 47 Fewer Than Yesterday
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] As the domestic COVID-19 outbreak shows signs of subsiding, new confirmed cases continued nationwide on the 21st.
According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, from midnight to 6 p.m. on that day, a total of 269 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported nationwide. This is 47 fewer than the 316 cases recorded at the same time the previous day.
By region, 190 cases (70.6%) were reported in the Seoul metropolitan area, and 79 cases (29.4%) in non-metropolitan areas. By city and province, there were 108 in Seoul, 66 in Gyeonggi, 20 in Daejeon, 16 in Incheon, 12 in Busan, 10 in Gangwon, 9 in Gyeongnam, 8 each in Gyeongbuk and Chungbuk, 3 each in Daegu, Ulsan, and Chungnam, and 1 each in Jeonbuk, Jeonnam, and Jeju. Among the 17 cities and provinces nationwide, no confirmed cases have yet been reported in Gwangju and Sejong.
Since there is still time until midnight when the tally closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced at 0:00 on the 22nd is expected to increase to the low to mid-300s, or possibly around 400. On the previous day, 41 additional cases were reported after 6 p.m.

The number of confirmed cases over the past week from the 15th to that day were 373 → 545 → 540 → 507 → 482 → 429 → 357 daily. With an average of about 462 cases per day over the week, the key indicator for adjusting the 'social distancing' level, the average daily number of locally transmitted cases, is approximately 433.
