Recommendation Submission for Foreign Honorary Citizen Candidates of Seoul
For Foreign Residents in Seoul Who Have Contributed to City Development in Various Fields Such as Economy, Culture, Education, and Health
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 21st, Seoul City announced that it is accepting recommendations for candidates for the '2021 Seoul Metropolitan Government Foreign Honorary Citizens' who have contributed to making Seoul a happy city for both domestic and foreign nationals in various fields such as economy, culture, and tourism, until the 23rd of next month.
The recommendation targets are foreigners who have continuously resided in Seoul Metropolitan City for more than 3 years (or a cumulative 5 years) as of the announcement date, and who meet one or more of the following criteria: ▲ those who have greatly enhanced the status of Seoul Metropolitan City domestically and internationally ▲ those who have significantly contributed to the improvement of citizens' living and cultural activities ▲ those who have greatly contributed to the economic development of the city ▲ those who have significantly contributed to the introduction of advanced technologies in fields such as science and technology.
Those eligible to recommend candidates are heads of national institutions and local governments, or heads of corporations, organizations, or social groups established for their purposes. If an individual recommends a candidate, a recommendation letter signed by more than 30 Seoul citizens must be attached.
The recommendation form can be found on the Seoul City website, and submissions are accepted by mail or in person until the 23rd of next month. For more details, inquiries can be made to the International Exchange Officer of Seoul Metropolitan City.
Seoul City will conduct a thorough verification of the candidates' merits and a strict review by the ‘Honorary Citizen Certificate Award Committee,’ composed of experts in Seoul city administration and international exchange fields, and select the final recipients with the consent of the Seoul Metropolitan Council. The honorary citizen certificate award ceremony is scheduled to be held in November.
