Yeosu City Signs Investment Agreement for Carbon Neutrality with Korea East-West Power and GS Caltex
Korea East-West Power to Invest 100 Billion KRW with GS Caltex to Build Eco-Friendly Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power Plant
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shim Kyung-taek] A hydrogen fuel cell power plant, known as an "eco-friendly power plant" due to its low noise and zero emission of pollutants, will be established in the Yeosu National Industrial Complex in Jeollanam-do.
On the 17th, Yeosu City announced that it signed an "Investment Agreement for the Activation of the Hydrogen Economy and Carbon Neutrality" with Korea East-West Power and GS Caltex at the situation room.
Korea East-West Power and GS Caltex will invest 100 billion KRW to build a 15MW-class hydrogen fuel cell power plant by 2023 on idle land within the Korea East-West Power Honam Thermal Power Plant in the Yeosu National Industrial Complex.
The hydrogen fuel cell power plant will produce electricity through a chemical reaction with oxygen by receiving by-product hydrogen generated during the petrochemical process at the GS Caltex Yeosu plant, producing only pure water as a byproduct.
Hydrogen fuel cell power generation using by-product hydrogen is attracting attention as an eco-friendly power generation method that produces less noise, has higher efficiency compared to conventional power generation methods, and generates almost no air pollutants such as CO2 or wastewater.
