In his opening remarks at the 292nd regular meeting on the 17th, Chairman Heo said, “Since May 11, no confirmed cases have occurred in Wando County, and the vaccination rate is about 40%, which is much higher than the national average of 23%,” urging a transition to a practical quarantine system.
The practical quarantine system means “increasing the vaccination rate and strengthening the daily quarantine system while easing controls on tourist inflow and expanding the number of private gatherings.”
In particular, rather than controlling tourist inflow at major tourist spots such as summer beaches, he suggested promoting practical tourism policies that strengthen quarantine measures but encourage tourists to spend locally, thereby helping small business owners.
He also requested preparations to attract non-residential trainees of the Jeollanam-do Talent Development Institute, which opened in Doam-myeon, Gangjin in April, to Wando County in anticipation of future herd immunity situations, aiming to revitalize local small business owners.
Additionally, he urged the authorities to take crisis awareness and prepare countermeasures regarding the labor shortages on land and sea caused by reduced abalone consumption and restricted inflow of foreign workers.
