[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong will sequentially visit Vietnam, Singapore, and Indonesia from the 21st to the 25th. This is his first face-to-face diplomacy with ASEAN countries since his appointment.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Choi Young-sam stated on the 17th, "Minister Chung is scheduled to visit three Southeast Asian countries until the 25th."
Minister Chung will depart on the evening of the 21st and visit Vietnam on the 22nd and 23rd, followed by Singapore and Indonesia on the 24th and 25th, respectively. During the tour, he will hold talks with the foreign ministers of each country and pay courtesy visits to their leaders. In Vietnam, he will also attend the high-level policy dialogue marking the 25th anniversary of ASEAN's founding.

This visit aims to discuss 'post-COVID' cooperation by visiting key countries related to the New Southern Policy. Spokesperson Choi said, "ASEAN, the most important target of the New Southern Policy, especially major countries, are the focus," adding, "As a model country in quarantine, South Korea is in a leading position for cooperation in the post-COVID era, and there may be requests for cooperation on various achievements and large-scale projects," highlighting the significance of the visit.
