Gangjin-gun to Receive Up to 30 Billion Won in Support Over 5 Years
Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Announces Preliminary Selection for '2022 Rural Agreement' Competition
[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] On the 17th, Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it has been preliminarily selected as a target city/county for the ‘2022 Rural Agreement’ organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and will receive up to 30 billion KRW in national funding over the next five years.
In this competition, 43 general agricultural and fishing villages nationwide applied, and a total of 20 locations were selected, including 17 target cities/counties (Anseong-si, Pyeongchang-gun, Jecheon-si, Cheongyang-gun, Geumsan-gun, Muju-gun, Jinan-gun, Gimje-si, Hwasun-gun, Naju-si, Bonghwa-gun, Cheongdo-gun, Gunwi-gun, Goryeong-gun, Sancheong-gun, Hapcheon-gun, Goseong-gun) and 3 preliminary cities/counties including Gangjin-gun (Eumseong-gun, Jangheung-gun).
Although Gangjin-gun was selected as a preliminary target area, since there have been no cancellations or withdrawals among the 17 target local governments, it can receive support for agreement signing on the same level as the target cities/counties, so there is effectively no difference from the target cities/counties.
This designation is evaluated as a great achievement accomplished through close cooperation between local National Assembly member Kim Seung-nam, the Jeollanam-do Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and Gangjin-gun to secure selection in the competition.
The Rural Agreement is a system in which the central government and local governments receive package support for necessary projects to revitalize living areas in rural regions through agreements, and Gangjin-gun will invest in projects according to its mid- to long-term plans across the entire living area.
The county plans to use the Rural Agreement to eliminate regional disparities in basic living SOC infrastructure and service usage, foster regionally specialized industries, and promote regional economic improvement.
To be selected for the Rural Agreement, the county designated a dedicated department from November last year and has been making all-out efforts this year, including opening the Gangjin-gun Agricultural and Fishing Village Revitalization Support Center, which can serve as a bridge between residents and administration.
