KOSPI Reaches Historic 3280 Level for the First Time... KOSDAQ Returns to 1000 Level Again
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] While the KOSPI reached the intraday milestone of 3,280 for the first time ever, the KOSDAQ recorded 'Cheonsdak (1000)' again.
As of 1:21 PM on the 16th, the KOSPI is at 3,274.30, up 0.48% from the previous day. On this day, the KOSPI soared to 3,281.41, setting a new intraday all-time high. This surpassed the previous intraday record of 3,266.23 set on January 11, marking a new high in about five months.
The KOSDAQ is up 0.19% at 999.24. It also surpassed 1,000 intraday for the first time in about a month and a half.
The KOSPI has been rising for five consecutive trading days including today, and the KOSDAQ has also been on an upward trend for the same period except for a slight decline the previous day. By investor type, foreigners are net buyers in the KOSPI market, and individuals are net buyers in the KOSDAQ market, leading the index increases.
Currently, foreigners are purchasing 841 billion KRW in the KOSPI market, and individuals are buying 762.2 billion KRW in the KOSDAQ market.
Looking at the KOSPI sector status, the rise in the Medical Precision (+5.25%) sector stands out, along with Transportation & Warehousing (+1.39%) and Distribution (+1.35%) sectors showing upward trends. On the other hand, Non-metallic Minerals (-1.68%) and Textiles & Apparel (-0.37%) sectors are declining.
Additionally, sectors such as Electrical & Electronics (+1.32%), Services (+1.12%), and Machinery (+1.09%) are rising together, while Telecommunications (-0.26%), Electric & Gas (-0.18%), and Pharmaceuticals (-0.00%) sectors are falling together.
Examining the KOSDAQ sector status, the rise in Other Services (+3.50%) is prominent, along with Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries (+1.57%) and Distribution (+1.21%) sectors showing upward trends. Conversely, the Mining (0.00%) sector is showing a downward trend.
Furthermore, sectors such as Construction (+0.85%), Accommodation & Food Services (+0.69%), and Transportation (+0.67%) are rising together, while Electric, Gas & Water (-1.15%) sectors are declining.

Experts expect the KOSPI to continue setting new all-time highs while showing a sideways market for the time being. The upper range of securities firms' KOSPI forecast bands for the second half of the year is between 3,300 and 3,700. Samsung Securities, Korea Investment & Securities, and Kyobo Securities suggest 3,300; IBK Investment & Securities suggests 3,400; Meritz Securities suggests 3,500; NH Investment & Securities and Hanwha Investment & Securities suggest 3,500; Daishin Securities suggests 3,630; Hana Financial Investment suggests 3,650; and Shinhan Financial Investment suggests the highest at 3,700.
