Gangwon-do, 'E-mobility Industry Research and Support Cluster' Construction Becomes Visible
Selected for the 'Support for Commercialization of Under 1-Ton Cargo Electric Vehicle Modules and Vehicles' Project... Secured 15 Billion KRW in National Funding
[Asia Economy Reporter La Youngcheol] Gangwon Province has been selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's project 'Support for Commercialization of Electric Vehicles and Modules for Cargo Under 1 Ton.'
On the 15th, Gangwon Province announced, "By securing 15 billion KRW in national funds, we plan to complete an e-mobility industry research and support cluster in the Mukgye-ri area of Hoengseong-gun that can provide one-stop support from technology development to performance testing, demonstration, certification support, prototype vehicle production, and parts procurement."
The 'Support for Commercialization of Electric Vehicles and Modules for Cargo Under 1 Ton' project will invest a total of 21.4 billion KRW (15 billion KRW national funds, 6.4 billion KRW local funds) by 2023 to support commercialization for small and startup companies.
The province especially expects to establish a hub infrastructure for the e-mobility industry in 2023 upon completion of the project, together with the already ongoing e-mobility enterprise support center.
Following the confirmation of the national fund project, construction of a special-purpose prototype vehicle production center for securing equipment installation space is also underway. The detailed design will be completed this year, with groundbreaking scheduled for early next year and completion by the end of the year.

A provincial official stated, "To overcome the crisis in Gangwon Province's automobile industry and create future growth engines, we plan to foster an industrial ecosystem centered on the cluster that will expand and advance into future car industries such as autonomous driving, connected cars, and advanced transportation systems, thereby promoting sustainable growth of the future car industry."
