Launch of National Assembly Inclusive Nation ESG Forum... National Assembly, Business Community, and Scientific Community Join Hands
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] The Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) announced on the morning of the 15th that the 'National Assembly Inclusive Nation ESG Forum' was launched through its inaugural general meeting held at the FKI building in Yeouido, Seoul.
The National Assembly Inclusive Nation ESG Forum is an organization with the slogan "ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) Economy pioneered by science and practiced by companies." It is composed of 25 related organizations including Democratic Party lawmakers Lee Won-wook, Hong Ik-pyo, Lee Yong-bin, Hong Sung-guk, Kim Hoe-jae, Hong Jeong-min, as well as the FKI, the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Korea Federation of SMEs, the Korea Employers Federation, the National Academy of Engineering of Korea, the Community Chest of Korea, and the Korea Mecenat Association. The forum will be held monthly.
Lee Won-wook, the forum’s representative, emphasized in his opening remarks that "ESG is a set of practical tasks in the fields of environment, society, and governance that embrace everyone in our society and allow all of us to share the fruits of growth." He added, "The scientific community will enable sustainable growth through technology, companies will practice ESG management, and various organizations participating in the forum will concretize and spread ESG," and said, "The forum members and the National Assembly will strive to establish systems that make this possible."
Lee Woo-il, president of the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies and co-chair of the forum, said, "We are entering a new normal era characterized by climate change, polarization, and the transition to a contactless society," and added, "The Federation and the scientific community will also contribute to spreading the philosophy of ESG based on coexistence and inclusion." Bae Sang-geun, executive director of the FKI and co-chair of the forum, said, "Recently, the business community’s will to promote ESG has been strong and the pace of its spread is also fast," and added, "We will strive to ensure that the forum’s purpose of opening an ESG economic paradigm is conveyed throughout society, from large corporations to mid-sized companies, and then to small and medium enterprises."
