Contributing to Budget Savings and On-Site Response Support through Active Government Property Management

Yeosu Coast Guard Reduces Budget by Self-Inspection and Calibration of Composite Gas Detectors View original image

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shim Kyung-taek] The Yeosu Maritime Police Station in Jeonnam is independently conducting inspection and calibration of the multi-gas detectors used during various fire incidents, thereby increasing government budget efficiency and operational effectiveness.

According to Yeosu Maritime Police, gas detectors were previously sent to inspection and calibration companies for checks and repairs. However, there was about a two-week gap during the inspection and calibration period, causing inconvenience in using the gas detectors on ships that were off duty.

By sharing work methods with the Yeosu Fire Station Chemical 119 Rescue Team, they learned how to inspect and calibrate gas detectors. They purchased consumable mixed gases and regulators necessary for multi-gas detector inspection and calibration, checked for sensor abnormalities in four sensors inside the detector (oxygen (O2), carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, methane), and replaced only the faulty sensors themselves, saving approximately 9 million KRW in government budget.

Previously, gas detectors were sent to companies for inspection and calibration once every two years, but from this year, self-inspection and calibration are possible, and they plan to conduct it once every six months to improve equipment efficiency.

As part of proactive administration, Yeosu Maritime Police independently inspected and calibrated a total of 17 multi-gas detectors in operation on site, eliminating unnecessary budget expenditures and operational inconveniences caused by inspection and calibration, thereby enhancing equipment inspection efficiency. They are currently negotiating to promote this initiative at other police stations under the Korea Coast Guard.

Park Hyo-su, Equipment Management Director of Yeosu Maritime Police, said, “We will continue to strive to improve the inconveniences of field departments and realize budget savings through government property management.”
