Gokseong-gun Holds Academic Conference on the National Treasure Promotion of Taeansa Jeokinseonsa Pagoda
Reevaluating the Historical and Academic Value of Cultural Treasure No. 273, Jeoginseonsa Pagoda
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] On June 18th at 1 PM, a non-face-to-face online academic conference will be held at the Jeonnam Gokseong Leisure Culture Center to promote the elevation of Taeansa Jeokinseonsa Pagoda to a national treasure.
The Taeansa Jeokinseonsa Pagoda is a stupa built to honor and preserve the legacy of Monk Hyecheol of Jeokinseonsa, who passed away in 861 during the Unified Silla period. It was designated as Nationally Designated Cultural Property Treasure No. 273 on January 21, 1963, and has been preserved to this day.
Gokseong County is promoting the elevation of the Jeokinseonsa Pagoda, a representative local cultural asset, to national treasure status to enhance its value. This academic conference is being held to reaffirm the historical and academic value of the Jeokinseonsa Pagoda and secure the justification for its elevation to a national treasure.
At the conference, presentations and discussions will cover topics such as ▲Jeokinseonsa and the founding of Dongri School, ▲Characteristics and value of Taeansa Jeokinseonsa Joryuncheongjeong Pagoda, ▲Current status and direction of stone stupas designated as national cultural properties, and ▲Current status and preservation management direction of Taeansa Buddhist heritage. Gokseong County expects this academic conference to serve as a catalyst for the first step toward national treasure elevation.
