Jeong Eui-yong Meets Blinken to Discuss North Korean Nuclear Issue and Myanmar Situation
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Jeong Eui-yong, Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea, who is visiting the United Kingdom, met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the 12th (local time) to exchange views on follow-up measures after last month's South Korea-U.S. summit and on issues concerning the Korean Peninsula, regional, and global matters.
The meeting took place in Cornwall, UK, where the Group of Seven (G7) summit was being held. South Korea was invited by the host country, the UK, and President Moon Jae-in attended the summit, with Minister Jeong carrying out related duties.
Both sides agreed that the South Korea-U.S. summit held successfully on the 21st of last month. They decided to concretize the outcomes of the summit by faithfully implementing follow-up measures in various fields such as vaccines, advanced technology and supply chains, and nuclear energy.
In particular, taking advantage of South Korea's participation in the G7 summit, they agreed to deepen South Korea-U.S. cooperation on major regional and global issues, including the Myanmar situation and global vaccine distribution.
Furthermore, both sides reaffirmed the goal of complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the establishment of lasting peace, as confirmed by the two leaders during the South Korea-U.S. summit, and agreed to continue close cooperation to bring North Korea to the dialogue table.
The U.S. Department of State also announced the results of this South Korea-U.S. foreign ministers' meeting. The Department stated that they discussed the South Korea-U.S. alliance, North Korean denuclearization issues, and the Myanmar situation.

In a press release issued by the spokesperson, the Department of State said that Minister Jeong and Secretary Blinken reaffirmed that the South Korea-U.S. alliance is a core axis of peace, security, and prosperity in Northeast Asia, the Indo-Pacific region, and beyond.
