Concurrently functioning as the Essential Workers Committee, tasked with formulating policies to protect the rights of essential and emotional laborers
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) has officially launched the Emotional Laborers' Rights Protection Committee, composed of labor experts, to promote a wider range of policies protecting the rights of emotional laborers and essential workers.
The Emotional Laborers' Rights Protection Committee consists of 10 experts with extensive knowledge and experience in human rights, labor, counseling, and occupational medicine fields. On the 2nd, the first committee members were appointed.
Going forward, they will work to guarantee the rights of emotional laborers and establish a healthy labor culture, while also functioning as an essential workers' committee.
Recently, as calls for improving the working conditions and treatment of emotional laborers and essential workers have grown louder, the need to protect their rights has been continuously raised.
In response, Yangcheon-gu enacted an ordinance on the protection of emotional laborers' rights in April last year and an ordinance on the protection of essential workers in April this year, striving to foster a healthy labor culture.
The district office installed emergency bells linked to the police at the general civil service office and community service centers, implemented CCTV installations without blind spots, and established recording phone systems to create a safe working environment. Additionally, extended childcare teachers were assigned to daycare centers to ensure sufficient rest for childcare workers.
Moreover, the job title "environmental cleaner" was changed to "environmental public officer," the first such change among Seoul's autonomous districts, and priority COVID-19 vaccinations were provided to enable them to work safely on-site.
Furthermore, a support of 200,000 KRW per person was given to 1,015 workers at elderly care facilities, disability welfare facilities, and homeless shelters, and 122 environmental public officers from cleaning agencies received disinfection supplies worth 200,000 KRW.
