Sancheong-gun 19% Compared to the Provincial City and County Average of 6~7%
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, a clean area, has been ranked first in Gyeongnam for two consecutive years in the certification rate of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).
On the 8th, Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam announced that as of 2020, the proportion of GAP-certified farms was the highest in Gyeongnam Province at 19%. The county also ranked first in Gyeongnam in 2019 with 17.8%.
According to the county, the proportion of GAP-certified farms in each city and county in Gyeongnam Province is around 6-7%. In contrast, Sancheong-gun has 19%, meaning that one out of every five farms in the region is certified.
Sancheong-gun has been actively promoting GAP certification by implementing various support projects such as certification fees, safety inspection costs for soil and water, and support for small-scale facilities.
In particular, this year, to expand certification fees and small-scale facility support, the county secured an additional 30 million KRW in the first supplementary budget, providing a total of 50 million KRW in support.
The county plans to take the lead in distributing safe and excellent agricultural products certified by GAP through its directly operated online shopping mall ‘San-encheong Shopping Mall’ and local food direct stores at highway rest areas.
A county official said, “If HACCP exists in the food sector, GAP certification can be said to exist in the agricultural product sector,” adding, “In the post-COVID-19 era, with growing interest in safe food, GAP certification will contribute not only to the production of safe food but also to increasing farmers’ income.”
