MAN Truck & Bus Korea Recalls 1,868 Dump Trucks Due to Manufacturing Defects
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] A voluntary recall will be implemented for 1,868 dump trucks manufactured and sold by MAN Truck & Bus Korea.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 8th that manufacturing defects were found in 1,868 dump trucks of 10 models produced and sold by MAN Truck & Bus Korea Co., Ltd. from November 4, 2014, to June 19, 2018.
According to the Ministry, the affected vehicles have damage and potential breakage in the material of the auxiliary braking device called the retarder, which may lead to reduced braking force of the retarder and deterioration of cooling performance due to coolant degradation.
Additionally, when the retarder operates, the instantaneous pressure exceeds the design maximum pressure, causing the cooling hose to break, which may result in coolant leakage and engine overheating, potentially compromising safe driving.
Owners of the affected dump trucks can receive free replacement of improved parts, software upgrades, and other services at designated MAN Truck & Bus Korea service centers starting from September 1.
