Party Member List Leak Allegations Also Controversial
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The dispute among candidates running for the People Power Party leadership election has shifted from a ‘factional debate’ to a ‘generation change theory,’ ultimately reaching ‘Yoon Seok-yeol.’ The argument revolves around whether the entry of former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol into the People Power Party will be easier or not, depending on who becomes the party leader.
On the 7th, former Supreme Council member Lee Jun-seok appeared on CBS Radio’s ‘Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show’ and criticized his rival candidate, former lawmaker Na Kyung-won, saying, "I cannot respond to delusions, but I really don’t know how to answer." He even expressed feeling "ashamed" of the way the election is being conducted. Earlier, former lawmaker Na had raised suspicions that Lee Jun-seok was collaborating with former People Power Party Emergency Committee Chairman Kim Jong-in to exclude former Prosecutor General Yoon from the opposition presidential candidate pool. This statement linked Kim’s repeated disparaging remarks about Yoon and Lee’s plan to recruit Kim as the election campaign committee chairman.
Former lawmaker Na also raised the possibility of ‘discord’ between Lee Jun-seok and Yoon Seok-yeol, emphasizing that she communicates directly with Yoon. In a media interview reported the previous day, Na said, "There were reports that Yoon is moving because of Lee Jun-seok, and party members are being influenced by this, which made Yoon express discomfort." This contradicts media reports that Lee Jun-seok’s surge is accelerating Yoon’s entry into the People Power Party, implying that such an atmosphere might actually hinder Yoon’s party entry.
Similarly, lawmaker Joo Ho-young, who is significantly trailing Lee Jun-seok in opinion polls, said, "Because of Lee Jun-seok’s remarks yesterday and the day before, Yoon is probably quite displeased." This was a criticism of Lee’s comment the previous day regarding allegations related to Yoon’s mother-in-law, where Lee said, "If the person who is considered the best among prosecutors in Korea defended someone with issues, it could be questioned as a matter of political qualification."

The suspicion of party member list leakage has also emerged as a new controversy. Lee Jun-seok raised the issue, stating, "There is evidence that the list was leaked from another camp, and text messages were sent to more than 300,000 party members." In response, former lawmaker Na and lawmaker Joo denied the related allegations, saying, "That did not happen." Regarding this, the People Power Party’s Election Commission held a meeting at the National Assembly on the same day to discuss countermeasures. Election Commission Vice Chairman Yoon Jae-ok said, "We are verifying the facts with the party that sent the messages at the Election Commission level," and added, "After confirming the facts and conducting legal review, we plan to hold another meeting tomorrow."
