Amorepacific's Green Tea Probiotics Listed as Dietary Supplement Ingredient by U.S. FDA Office of Dietary Supplements
Recognized for Safety of Green Tea Probiotics Through Credible Institutions
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] Amorepacific announced on the 4th that its independently discovered green tea lactic acid bacteria strain has been registered as a New Dietary Ingredient (NDI) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
NDI is a system through which the U.S. FDA reviews the safety of newly developed dietary ingredients and approves their use within the United States. It selects new ingredients that meet all the FDA's required experimental results and analysis data, including manufacturing processes, usage history, and human safety. Amorepacific's plant-based green tea lactic acid bacteria strain (Lactobacillus plantarum AP Seollok 331261) met the FDA's safety and other requirements and received NDI certification.
Since independently discovering green tea lactic acid bacteria in 2010 from organic green tea grown in Jeju Dolsongi Tea Fields, Amorepacific has continued various research efforts. Through this, it revealed that the world's first patented green tea lactic acid bacteria excel in several aspects such as intestinal survival, colonization, and anti-inflammatory effects. In particular, it manages safety at a global standard with no antibiotic resistance or toxic factors, meeting the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) guideline level.
To further strengthen research on green tea lactic acid bacteria and the microbiome, Amorepacific established the Green Tea Lactic Acid Bacteria Research Center at its Technology Research Institute in February last year. In March, its Vital Beauty brand launched the product "Lactic Acid Bacteria from Green Tea," which contains organic green tea-derived lactic acid bacteria that help restore comfortable intestinal health rhythms. Since its launch, the product has sold over 15 million packs and is preparing to enter Amazon Global in the second half of this year, following Vietnam and China.
Park Young-ho, head of Amorepacific's Technology Research Institute, explained, "It is meaningful that Amorepacific's green tea lactic acid bacteria have been recognized again for their safety through registration as an NDI by the globally reputable U.S. Food and Drug Administration."
