The background of this statement is related to the remarks made the previous day by Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who publicly apologized regarding former Minister Cho Kuk and also demanded a strict investigation into former Prosecutor General Yoon’s family. At a press conference, Leader Song said, "The standards for the prosecution's investigation into former Minister Cho Kuk’s family should be applied equally to the corruption of former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol’s family and the prosecution family."
Son Kyung-sik, lawyer for former Prosecutor General Yoon’s mother-in-law, stated, "Recently, the trial for Mr. Choi’s violation of the Medical Service Act has concluded, and although the court’s judgment is imminent, some politicians’ excessive words and actions continue," adding, "Even though some social forces who do not know the specific details of the case are spreading slander, which could be overlooked as a misunderstanding, even politicians who are legal professionals and should uphold the value of the trial system based on law and evidence are repeatedly crossing the line." Leader Song is also a lawyer by profession.
Furthermore, Lawyer Son said, "Recently, even politicians who are legal professionals have been repeating claims that 'Mr. Choi was not indicted because of a non-prosecution memorandum written by the main culprit in 2015,' but that claim is utterly groundless as it implies that individuals mutually designated who should be criminally punished, which anyone can see is absurd," and added, "This claim was made only once and for the last time in the complaint and complainant’s statement by the accusers of this case, Choi Kang-wook and Hwang Hee-seok, so I do not understand why such worthless claims are still widely discussed throughout society."
Lawyer Son also criticized former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun’s recent remarks that "the investigation related to former Prosecutor General Yoon’s family is sluggish. A swift investigation should be conducted." He said, "The Central District Prosecutors’ Office has not even once requested the submission of materials from the parties involved, and it is incomprehensible why the case has not been handled like this," adding, "I cannot help but suspect that the purpose is to indefinitely prolong the situation and create a kind of frame."

Lawyer Son stated, "As a principle, lawyers make claims and arguments in court, so out of respect for the trial system, we have refrained from expressing external opinions as much as possible," and added, "We will continue to uphold this principle, but if some social forces continue indiscriminate slander, we plan to respond actively within the bounds of maintaining courtesy and respect for the trial system and the court."
