KT and Seo-gu, Gwangju City Launch 'AI Care Service' for Seniors
Building LTE-Based AI Speaker for Safe Care Services Targeting Vulnerable Groups Including the Elderly
Establishing 24-Hour 'AI Speaker-KT Telecop-119 Safety Reporting Center' Integration System
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] KT announced on the 3rd that it will start the "Care Service Using Artificial Intelligence (AI) Speakers" in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, in collaboration with Seo-gu and the Seo-gu Community Security Council.
The AI care service provides dedicated AI speakers to vulnerable groups such as the elderly and patients with underlying diseases, linking Internet of Things (IoT) door sensors and smart switches to prevent solitary deaths and promote emotional stability.
Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, introduced the AI welfare worker service applying KT's AI Contact Center (AICC) for the first time nationwide in February. This time, as part of the Nongsong 1-dong Social Security Special Support Zone project, it launched the nation's first LTE-based AI speaker care service, accelerating the realization of a non-face-to-face welfare environment. After signing a supply contract for the AI care service with the Seo-gu Office of Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 4th of last month, KT prioritized installing AI speakers and IoT sensors in 100 households at risk of solitary death and completed the establishment of the control system.
The AI care service operates a 24/7 integrated system linking "AI Speaker - KT Telecop - 119 Safety Reporting Center." In case of an emergency, saying "Jiniya, save me" to the AI speaker triggers action through the integrated control system. Notably, KT's AI care service can recognize Jeolla dialect expressions such as "Ome jukgetdangke" and "Geulje." Additionally, thanks to the LTE-based AI speaker, emergency alert services are available even during power outages, and it can be used outdoors while being portable.

KT and Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, plan to expand the AI care service to 500 households by the second half of next year, and after performance verification, they will spread the care standard model throughout Seo-gu.
