Gwangyang Steelworks Launches Growth Support Program for Children of Multicultural Families in Gwangyang City
Supporting Healthy Growth of Children from Multicultural Families
Joint Participation by POSCO, Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority, and Gwangyang City... 50 Million KRW Donation from 'POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Kim Ji-yong) held the launch ceremony for the “Da(Gather) Together Kiwoom-Ae(愛)” business cooperation at the resident communication space ‘Dagaon(ON)’ located in Gwangyang City on the 2nd, supporting the healthy and happy growth of children from multicultural families.
At the launch ceremony, only a minimal number of attendees participated to prevent COVID-19 cluster infections, including Lee Cheol-ho, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks; Bang Ki-tae, Director of Gwangyang City Education and Childcare Center; Choi Yeon-cheol, Vice President of Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority; and Son Kyung-hwa, Director of the Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center.
Now in its third year, “Da(Gather) Together Kiwoom-Ae(愛)” operates △ Talent Development Programs △ Social Development Programs △ Mentoring Programs linking non-multicultural high school students to promote the proper growth of children from multicultural families.
Along with this, it is highly popular for providing diverse and comprehensive support such as helping form positive parent-child relationships through various educational, cultural, and experiential activities involving the whole family.
In the third year, the program aims to establish a foundation for children’s growth as global talents while supporting employment and entrepreneurship for marriage immigrant women. After training marriage immigrant women as bilingual instructors, they are employed as language and cultural education instructors for various countries. Additionally, surveys will be conducted targeting diverse families in Gwangyang City, including multicultural and single-parent families, to prepare programs that meet their actual needs.
“Da(Gather) Together Kiwoom-Ae(愛),” which has been led by Gwangyang Steelworks since 2019 with joint participation from Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority and Gwangyang City, is operated in its third year with financial support of 50 million KRW from the ‘POSCO 1% Sharing Fund’?formed by 1% of POSCO employees’ salaries?and 30 million KRW from Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority.
Lee Cheol-ho, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, who participated in the launch ceremony, stated, “The ‘Da Together Kiwoom-Ae’ project launched today consists of various programs to support the healthy growth of multicultural children and to foster proper relationships between parents and children,” adding, “I hope this project will become a channel for communication between multicultural families and the local community, leading to positive changes.”

Meanwhile, in April, Gwangyang Steelworks actively practiced the management philosophy of ‘Corporate Citizenship for Coexistence and Shared Growth’ by conducting the ‘Ga(家) Na(NA) Da(多) Puppet Show’ project to help multicultural families establish roots as members of the local community and to assist local residents’ understanding so that diverse cultures can coexist within the region.
