Overseas Cultural Promotion Agency Publishes 'Kimchi as Described by People Around the World'
A Story About Foreigners Who Love Kimchi with Various Kimchi Information
Korean and English Notations Included for Use in Korean Language Textbooks
The Overseas Culture and Information Service of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 2nd that they have published a standalone book titled Kimchi in the Eyes of the World, which captures foreigners' experiences with Korean kimchi culture. The book includes stories from foreigners who love kimchi, along with information about its taste, benefits, and the kimjang culture. It is written in both Korean and English to be used as a Korean language learning resource.
Kimchi in the Eyes of the World consists of expert contributions, kimchi experience stories from foreign embassies in Korea (4 articles), articles by Korea.net honorary reporters (18 articles), local kimchi experience events held by overseas Korean cultural centers (35 articles), foreign media reports related to kimchi, and Q&A about kimchi. It also features vivid photos of foreigners’ firsthand experiences with kimchi.
In an expert contribution, British author Tim Alper described "the secret of Korean kimchi as the taste of bonding." Eighteen Korea.net honorary reporters shared their experiences not only making kimchi but also preparing and tasting kimchi pancakes, kimchi fried rice, and kimchi stew through writings, photos, and comics. The Q&A section clearly distinguishes how kimchi differs from China’s pao cai.
