Guro-gu Wins Council Chairman Award at 'Chamjoeun Local Autonomy Policy Conference'
Selected as an Excellent Policy for Predicting Facility Collapse Risks with the 'IoT-based Risk Facility Early Warning System'... Implementing Various Smart Projects Including WiFi and IoT Networks Across All Areas and Safe Care Services
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) received the Chairman's Award from the Council of Good Local Governments at the 'Good Local Autonomy Policy Competition.'
The 'Good Local Autonomy Policy Competition' is an event hosted by the Council of Good Local Governments to discover and spread excellent policy cases that help improve citizens' lives.
The award ceremony was held on the 31st of last month at Daejeon City Hall. Mayor Lee Seong attended in person to receive the award.
At this policy competition, Guro-gu's 'IoT-based Safety Management Early Warning Service for Hazardous Facilities' was selected as an excellent policy.
In 2018, Guro-gu became the first in the nation to establish the 'IoT-based Safety Management Early Warning Service for Hazardous Facilities.' This system continuously monitors tilt, cracks, vibrations, and other factors through sensors installed on aging and hazardous facilities such as buildings and bridges to predict collapse risks. When measurements exceed the set thresholds, the system notifies the responsible management department staff at the district office via a dedicated application.
Guro-gu installed 600 sensors in 139 locations, including schools, daycare centers, community service centers, retaining walls, and apartment complexes. The accumulated data will be used as basic materials to improve the facility safety management system in the future.
Mayor Lee Seong said, "I am pleased that our efforts to create a safe and smart Guro have borne good results," and added, "We will continue to do our best to make Guro a safer and happier smart city for residents."
Meanwhile, Guro-gu is carrying out various smart city projects that incorporate advanced technologies into all areas of administration with the goal of becoming a representative smart city of South Korea.
In 2018, the district completed the establishment of WiFi and Internet of Things (IoT) networks throughout the entire area, laying the foundation for smart city projects.
