"Total Prize Money 150 Million Won" Watcha and KOCCA Hold Video Content Planning Contest for Individual Creators
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] Online video service (OTT) Watcha announced on the 31st that it will hold a "Video Content Planning Proposal Contest" with a total prize of 150 million KRW for individual creators in collaboration with the Korea Creative Content Agency.
This contest is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and jointly organized by Watcha and the Korea Creative Content Agency. The supported genres are three in total: drama such as short-form or sitcom, entertainment/culture (feature-length or series), and documentary (feature-length or series). The grand prize for the drama category is 30 million KRW, and the grand prizes for the entertainment/culture and documentary categories are 10 million KRW each.
Anyone who is an individual, regardless of whether they are an established or rookie writer, can participate through the Korea Creative Content Agency website. Both freelancers who are not employed and those currently employed can participate as individuals. The application period is from July 1 to 16. Selected works will receive expert consulting and completion programs, and about three outstanding works will receive production support and be scheduled through Watcha.

Meanwhile, Watcha has gained much attention by producing innovative original content through collaborations with various creators, such as "Jojjoso," which humorously depicts the harsh realities of small and medium-sized enterprises. They are focusing on content differentiation by producing documentaries on the rebuilding process of the professional baseball team Hanwha Eagles, and original series like "Unframed," directed by four young Chungmuro actors Park Jung-min, Son Seok-gu, Choi Hee-seo, and Lee Je-hoon.
