[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] The National Book Reading Cities Council (Chairman Seonghun Yoo, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu) held its regular general meeting on the 26th with 19 member local governments in attendance.
At the meeting, 19 local government heads attended, including Chairman Seonghun Yoo, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, Kyeomsu Park, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, Seong Lee, Mayor of Guro-gu, Wooryong Kim, Mayor of Dongnae-gu, Busan, Beomdeok Han, Mayor of Cheongju, Jeongseop Kim, Mayor of Gongju, and Seonggon Heo, Mayor of Gimhae.
This regular general meeting was held as a non-face-to-face online video conference to prevent the spread of COVID-19. After reporting on the progress so far, the 2020 business settlement and the 2021 business plan were reviewed and approved.
The National Book Reading Cities Council plans to start a contest for excellent reading programs targeting member local governments in June, beginning with the regular general meeting.
Also, a workshop will be held in September in Buk-gu, Busan, where the Korea Reading Festival will be held this year, and a forum to promote a culture of reading will be conducted in November.
Meanwhile, the National Book Reading Cities Council was established in 2018 to enhance the effectiveness of reading promotion policies by promoting exchange and cooperation among book reading cities nationwide and to contribute to the realization of a book-reading community society.
