Yeon E&B T Enters Food Waste Processor Business..."Product Launch Next Month"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Yeon-i B&T announced on the 27th that it will start a home food waste disposer business. The company plans to officially launch product sales in the second half of this year.
A company representative explained the reason for entering the market, saying, "Due to COVID-19, food waste at home has increased, leading to growing demand for home food waste disposers. It is such an attractive market that even major home appliance companies are trying to enter."
Domestic home food waste disposers are largely classified into three types: grinding, drying, and fermentation. The grinding method causes environmental issues by discharging residues into the sewage system, and the government is phasing it out. The drying method has drawbacks such as noise, odor, and high maintenance costs.
Yeon-i B&T plans to introduce a food waste disposer using a microbial extinction method, which is a more advanced processing method than the existing fermentation type. The company explained that since it uses extinction microbes with a reduction rate of over 90%, the amount of by-products is drastically less compared to conventional fermentation microbial treatment, resulting in no wastewater generation and greater convenience.
The Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL), a quality assurance institution for food waste disposers, certifies fermentation microbes with a reduction rate of about 50% as Standard Criterion-I, and extinction microbes with a reduction rate of 75% or higher as Standard Criterion-II. The food waste disposer that Yeon-i B&T will introduce uses extinction microbes at the Standard Criterion-II level.
