[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Chang-won] Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 26th that it will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the 'Marine Leisure Tourism Hub Project' at the site of the Marine Leisure Experience Center construction within Seogwipo Port at 2 p.m. on the 27th.
The Marine Leisure Tourism Hub Project is part of a project promoted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to develop marine leisure tourism hubs in seven regional zones nationwide, creating seas where there are always enjoyable activities no matter where you go.
It is divided into seven regional zones nationwide: the metropolitan area (urban recreational marina), the West Coast area (marine culture and ecological tourism), the Dadohae area (island, coastal, and fishing village linked stay-type tourism), the Hallyeo Waterway area (rest and healing stay), the Southeast area (waterfront culture center), the East Coast area (marine leisure sports), and the Jeju area (underwater leisure).
The groundbreaking ceremony will be attended by about 50 people, including Song Sang-geun, Director of Marine Policy at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Congressman Wi Seong-gon, Deputy Governor for Political Affairs Ko Young-kwon, Chairman of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Economy Committee of the Provincial Council Hyun Gil-ho, Provincial Councilor Kang Chung-ryong, as well as the head of Seogwi East Fishing Village Association and the chairman of the Songsan-dong Residents' Autonomy Committee.
The Marine Leisure Tourism Hub Project completed the basic and detailed design at the end of last year and finalized administrative procedures such as selecting the construction company to create regional hubs that meet the increasing demand for marine tourism and to establish attractions enjoyed by both domestic and foreign visitors.
Subsequently, civil engineering works in the marine sector, such as breakwaters to secure calm waters, will be carried out to protect the future Marine Leisure Experience Center and support income projects of the fishing village associations.
The Marine Leisure Experience Center is being designed with a building area of 2,369.24㎡, a total floor area of 4,508.61㎡, and four above-ground floors. Once the design is completed, construction is scheduled to be commissioned in the second half of next year.
The first floor of the Marine Leisure Experience Center will house a permanent exhibition hall and convenience facilities; the second floor will have meeting and planning exhibition rooms; the third floor will be an indoor surfing board experience and education center; and the fourth floor will include a skin and scuba diving pool (30m×15m) and observation facilities.
Jeju Province expects that once the Marine Leisure Experience Center is established, it will become a mecca of marine tourism offering various marine leisure programs along with attractions and entertainment for residents and tourists alike.
