Neighborhood Learning Center 'Cheonggudong Class' Operation
Resident Enrollment Open Since the 17th... Cheonggudong's Customized Classes Using Cheonggudong Artist Housing and Sewing Comprehensive Support Center
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seoyangho) announced that it will revitalize the "Neighborhood Learning Center Within One Step" project so that residents can make lifelong learning a daily habit within their nearby living area.
The Jung-gu Neighborhood Learning Center is a resident-led lifelong learning program that organizes educational programs utilizing resources and idle spaces within Jung-gu, allowing any resident to participate in desired learning activities within their nearby living area.
Through this, residents can easily make lifelong learning a daily habit and enjoy a culture of practicing learning together with neighbors. The district operates various programs centered around galleries, libraries, and community centers in seven neighborhoods.
Notably, "Cheonggudong Class" is bringing vitality to Cheonggudong.
The Cheonggudong Community Center has been operating 19 programs and 39 courses daily since the 21st in a unique way. Since March, a survey of residents was conducted to identify their learning needs, and based on the results, learning programs were organized.
In particular, the Cheonggudong Neighborhood Learning Center "Cheonggudong Class" utilizes the "Our Neighborhood Management Office" as an educational space to make it easily accessible for residents.
The Our Neighborhood Management Office (hereafter Udongso) is a space opened to take responsibility for chronic alley cleaning and pedestrian safety issues in aging residential areas, similar to an apartment management office, serving as a communication and healing space for residents.
Also, actively utilizing Cheonggudong’s unique neighborhood resources such as the Cheonggudong Artists’ Residence, Sewing Comprehensive Support Center, and Leather Workshop is the core of operating "Cheonggudong Class."
The Cheonggudong Artists’ Residence, formerly the house of former Prime Minister Kim Jongpil, was transformed into a communal residence for young artists in 2020.
Various artists living there, including actors and painters, share culture and art together as residents and program instructors in Cheonggudong Class.
The main courses of Cheonggudong Class include ▲ Acting classes with actors ▲ Natural dyeing classes with the Sewing Center ▲ Flower tea sommelier ▲ Leather crafts ▲ Home baking and children’s programs such as ▲ Children’s musical play with actors ▲ Family travel art class with a painter following the wind ▲ Children’s robot coding class.
Courses recruit 5 to 7 participants on a first-come, first-served basis per program, and lectures are free. Students only need to cover separate material costs.
Considering COVID-19 prevention measures, the maximum number of participants is limited, and classes will be conducted in small groups strictly following quarantine guidelines.
Applications are accepted in person on the 2nd floor of the Cheonggudong Community Center. For more details, contact the Dong Administration Team 1 at the Cheonggudong Community Center in Jung-gu.
